Ok, I noticed this about a week ago, so I pay attention to it a lot now ... still trying to figure it out, Personally I never gave it much thought as to how much an OS could affect operating temps.
Here's what I've noticed, and confirmed many time's since the first, it's a fairly consistent result too:
When I "normally" operate, high Graphic's programs, such as Photoshop or UT with all the settings maxed out for Quality, I have Two Nvidia 9400 GT's in SLi for a total of 2 Gig of Video Memory. In Windows XP Pro, they normally max out at around 36 C.
I finally found a Linux Nvidia Control panel that worked in Ubuntu and loaded it. Not as robust as the windows version, but still works out ok, and I can do screen shots via F9 in game at resolutions of 1900 X 1200, and they come out great.
However, when I use it for awhile, or play with GimpShop, and check my temp's, my GPU 1 is usually around 52 C and GPU 2 at 46 C ... more then 10 degree's hotter???
Anyone got any idea's, I would not have expected that to happen, For one thing Ubuntu "seems" to be much more efficient, using less resourses (for most things) and without a doubt, much faster to load practically everything.
I can't imagine the OS making that much of a difference. The Linux Nvidia Control panel I found is in beta, but seems to work fine.
Has anyone else experienced this??
